"A lot of times folks are sold on the idea that 'you own your clients,' and they assume that means they own their data as well. And that is not always the case. The ideal is to walk out day one with the data, or transfer day one to a buyer. If that's not possible, you're stuck relying on client consent after the fact, which slows deals," Kupfer says.
